If my posts have been scarce my apologies are led by the time I am spending at restaurants as I eat to get Rossouw’s Restaurants 2007 to the printing press. It’s somewhat reshaped from the previous three in that I am taking many of the forgettable places out and concentrating on the interesting and notable spots. There is still time for you to assist me, by sending a review of your eating experience – you’ll find an easy-to-use feedback form on the site. Changes and closures are always the logistical challenge, and this year sees a few notable places undergoing changes.
Franck Dangereaux has left the legendary La Colombe, and it will be interesting to see if they can maintain its status henceforth. A meal there recently suggests they’re up against it, as is so often the case. It’s the last 10 percent that a real genius brings, if I am generous enough to use the word…
Thomas Sinn’s Blue Danube which used to be one of the town’s fine diners is now a shell, he’s moved into far more modern premises in a new development called Wembley Square (how African). It’s called Sinn’s and there is some promise of good future eating. The same hall also features a new bakery with promise.
Lastly, for now, Aubergine has seen a complete interior revamp of great success – and the food is still excellent. More modern, clean and still warm and inviting, the space is now a better match to the cuisine.
Can you please tell me where Franck Dangereaux is now cooking? We come to Cape Town each year for January and were so disapointed last year when we ate at La Colombe, so looking forward to Franck’s wonderful food and instead were given a less than ordinary meal! Hope you can help me, kind regards, Iris Harvey
Hi Iris
Sorry for only answering so late. Franck is now cooking at his own restaurant called The Foodbarn in Noordhoek Village which is at the bottom of the Chapman’s Peak Drive. It’s a great spot and the food is wonderful, featuring many of Franck’s signature dishes. The tel is 021 789 1390.
